BOINC is an open-source volunteer oriented distributed computing grid. It’s free, and harnesses the unused clock cycles from processors and graphics cards to attempt to cure cancer/AIDS/Ebola, map the Milky Way galaxy, fold proteins, search for extraterrestrial life, and others.

Install VMWare Tools On Ubuntu Server 12.04

To install VMWare tools on Ubuntu Server 12.04, do the following:

Install gcc:

sudo apt-get install build-essential

In vSphere, Select Install/Upgrade VMWare Tools. Next, mount the CD ISO:

sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom

Now, move the installer file to the local system and extract it:

Note: Below, replace <TAB> with the TAB key on your keyboard!

cd /tmp
cp /media/cdrom/VM<TAB> .
tar xzvf VM<TAB>

Finally, run it:

cd vmware-tools-distrib
sudo ./vmware-install.pl
